BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 4/1/2024
Offshore: These cold fronts have made it hard for fishing but some captains have it dialed in. The Spanish bite has slowed but the tip of the Cape seems to be holding a few as well as Mexico Beach. Try dragging a Rapala X-Rap as well as Mackerel Rigs. Capt. Chase Wilder of Signal 0 Charters, had a great day, catching Vermilion Snapper. Although Red Snapper season is closed, it's hard to keep them off the line. Capt. Pete Barwick of Bounty Bay Charters report the Vermillion Snapper, Porgie and Red Grouper bite is also doing good cut mackerel seems to be the bait of choice.
Inshore: Captain Jason Williams of Chasin Dreams Charters had a prominent trip with several Redfish and Sheephead. Live shrimp as well as bull minnows are the bait to have. Capt. Lee Thompson of Shallow Seas Charters never disappoints, he caught several Saint Joe Slams, consisting of Redfish, Trout and Flounder. Capt. Chris Lance of Gettin Reel Sportfishing had a happy crew of young fisherman with limits of Redfish and Sheephead.
Freshwater: The rivers have been up and down this week. Lake Wimico is still the spot to be for Catfish and Shell Cracker. The Crappie bite has also been good up in the creeks on live minnows. If you're throwing artificial try the Berkely Crappie Nibbles or a small 2 inch grubs, such as Kalins Triple threat in a Tennessee Shad.
